ARE SMARTPHONES REALLY GOOD FOR YOU?

Short wavelength blue light emitted by smart phones and other types of screens cause health effects like eye strain and pain. This type of light may even damage the cornea and impact vision. Having smart phones may disrupt young children and even old people’s minds. Apps like Tik Tok, Instagram, Whatsapp, Facebook, Snapchat, and so many more and games like Fortnite, Fifa, Minecraft can all be damaging your eyesight without even realising.

You carry your smartphone with you wherever you go. You have it on you at school, work and whilst out shopping and running errands. Some people even carry their smartphones into the bathroom. This is not recommended as smartphones harbour viruses and bacteria like E.Coli through faecal samples. Use alcohol-based wipes that are safe to use on electronics and wipe down your smartphone at least once daily to remove dirt, dust and germs. This is especially paramount during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Going on your phone can also be good, for instance, if you limit your time. Don’t go on your phone at least one hour before sleeping as the blue light may affect your vision, especially when it is dark. As well as this, it may be difficult to sleep or do your normal activities the next day.

Do you really think it is a smart phone if you become so addicted that you fail school, or even get fired. Instead, just limit yourself to how many hours you will spend on your phone and when.
